14th Sunday after Pentecost
Afterfeast of the Dormition of the Mother of God; the Holy Prophet Samuel
September 2, 2007 Year 43, no. 35

Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14 Epistle: II Corinthians 1:21-2:4

Sunday Tropar: Tone 3: p.97. Tropar of the Dormition (Tone 1): In giving birth you retained your virginity, in falling asleep you did not abandon the world, O Mother of God. You passed into life, for you are the Mother of Life, and by your pray’rs you delivered our souls from death. Glory be: Sunday Kondak (Tone 5) p.99. Now and always: Kondak of the Dormition (Tone 2): The tomb and death could not hold the Mother of God, unceasing in her intercession and unfailing hope of patronage, for, as the Mother of Life, she was transferred to life by Him Who had dwelt in her evervirgin womb.

Instead of Dostoyno (It is truly): Seeing the pure one’s falling asleep, angels marvelled in wonder how the Virgin could ascend from earth to heaven. (Irmos) O pure Virgin, in you are conquered the bounds of nature, for childbirth remains virginal and death is betrothed with life. Virgin after childbearing and alive after death, O Mother of God, never cease to save your inheritance.

Communion Song: Let us all say #51 Closing Song: Dormition Tropar & Kondak

Today, September 2, we will have a special blessing for teachers and students on the occasion of the beginning of the school year.

O LORD OUR GOD, Who has honoured us with Your image and likeness and has filled us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, - we ask You today, at the beginning of the new school year for the blessing of our teachers and students. Open their minds and hearts and fill them with the gifts of understanding, knowledge and wisdom. Strengthen their will for goodness and the fulfilling of Your Holy Commandments. Guard them from all dangers of sin. Preserve them in the true faith and chastity, so that they may faithfully glorify Your Holy Name, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

This month we have an extra envelope for the Holy Spirit Seminary. If you do not have envelopes there are additional envelopes at both entrances of the Church. By supporting the seminary we are supporting our future priesthood. This year we are also supporting a seminarian from our parish.
