The Royal Doors are the doors of the King of kings. The center aisle is very important in the Byzantine Rite. Everything happens in the center aisle The center aisle leads to the altar, the Holy of Holies.
During the Divine Liturgy God becomes flesh when the bread and wine change into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The icon of Annunciation in which Gabriel greets the Blessed Virgin Mary reminds us of the Incarnation - the moment when the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. The Son of God becomes flesh during every Divine Liturgy on the holy altar in the center aisle. Two central themes are represented on these center doors: the Holy Eucharist and the Gospel.>br>
The four Holy Apostles and Evangelists (Gospel writers) Matthew (top left), Mark (bottom left), John with Prochor, his scribe (top right), and Luke (bottom right) remind us that the Gospel is also read in this center aisle. The King of kings, the Word of God, comes to us both in the Eucharist and the Gospel.
